146 Udupi Villages at Risk of Drinking Water Shortages

Udupi district in Karnataka has been identified as having 146 villages that may soon face drinking water shortages, according to a recent assessment by the state water board.

The shortfall stems from a combination of declining groundwater levels, over-extraction and inadequate infrastructure, leaving many communities dependent on insufficient borewells and shallow hand pumps. The list, which includes places such as Byre, Kinnigoli, and Kallod, highlights a growing scarcity of safe drinking water across the district.
