146 Udupi Villages Facing Drinking Water Shortage

According to a recent assessment by local authorities, 146 villages in Udupi district are on the verge of a drinking water shortage, with many residents already experiencing intermittent supply.

The report, released on May 3, 2024, cites decreasing monsoon rains, overuse of deep borewells and inadequate storage capacity. The district’s water supply network, built in the 1980s, relies on shared borewells that have shown signs of overextraction, resulting in wells drying up during lean periods.
