65,401 Udupi Children to Receive Polio Vaccine on June 28

On June 28, the Udupi district will roll out a mass polio vaccination campaign, targeting 65,401 children aged 0 to 5 years. The drive will be conducted across 44 health blocks and 275 sub-centres, with teams distributing oral polio vaccine (OPV) at community health centres and schools.
Polio remains a public health concern in India, despite the country having achieved high vaccination coverage in previous years. The National Polio Eradication Programme began in 2011, and India has been declared polio–free in the European region and in the Americas, but pockets of endemic transmission still exist.
By vaccinating tens of thousands, the district aims to reinforce herd immunity and protect vulnerable children from paralytic polio, while meeting national targets to keep India polio–free. Source: Google News – Udupi.
