93 Gram Panchayats in Udupi District May Face Water Shortage This Summer

The water department of Udupi District has warned that up to 93 gram panchayats could run out of water during the upcoming summer months as monsoon rains fall short of projected levels.

Udupi’s micro‑regional rainfall has become increasingly erratic, with many villages relying on small tanks, borewells and seasonal streams that dry up quickly when precipitation is below average. The district’s heavy dependence on monsoon‑fed irrigation means any deficit directly impacts local agriculture and domestic supply.
