ANPR Cameras Reduce Traffic Violations in Udupi District, Police Commissioner Says

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have come online across several key routes in Udupi district, drastically reducing traffic violations, Police Commissioner N. Praveen Rao announced today.
These high‑speed cameras capture vehicle details in real time and flag offences such as speeding, illegal parking, and unauthorized use of contraband, according to the commissioner. The system is part of a wider initiative to modernise traffic enforcement and improve road safety for residents and commuters.
An initial audit shows a 35% drop in recorded violations since the cameras became operational, with enforcement officers noting quicker identification of offenders. The Udupi Police Department plans to expand the network in the coming months to cover additional highways and local roads.
