ANPR Cameras Reduce Traffic Violations in Udupi District, Says SP

In a statement today, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Udupi district announced that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed in key traffic points across the district have significantly reduced traffic violations.
The ANPR system, which captures vehicle registration details every 30 seconds, has been operational since late last month. According to the SP, the cameras logged a total of 1,200 traffic offences – ranging from speeding to illegal parking – before the district headquarters processed the data for enforcement action.
Officials say the data has not only deterred potential offenders but also expedited the hassle of manual checks. “By catching violations promptly, we can issue fines and take corrective measures without delay, thereby improving road safety,” the SP added.
