BJP warns of stir in Udupi if district hospital project not finished by April

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has warned that it will provoke a public stir in Udupi district if the state government fails to complete the new district hospital by the end of April. The party’s spokesperson said the delay would undermine confidence in the administration and could trigger widespread protests.
The 200-bed government hospital, located in Udupi town, was approved in 2019 with an estimated cost of ₹850 crore. Construction began in early 2022, and according to the project timeline, all units were to be ready for operations by 30 April 2024. However, several contractors have cited shortages of materials and bureaucratic bottlenecks.
In light of these delays, the BJP has positioned itself as the guardian of public interest, signalling that it will mobilise voters and civil society if the project is not completed on time.
