Bomb Threat Email Sparks Security Alert at Udupi District Court

A threat of violence announced in an email triggered a security scramble at the Udupi District Court on Monday. Court officials, following protocols by the enforcement agencies, evacuated the premises, and police and security personnel sealed the building with temporary barriers to check for any explosive device.
The incident came at a time when the court was hearing a case pertaining to a land dispute. Security teams performed an extensive sweep, which included a patrol of the court corridors, gates and surrounding area, before a small incendiary device that had been inadvertently left by an employee was dismantled. The device was quickly neutralised without causing any damage.
No one was injured in the incident. The court spokesman stated that the threat was taken seriously, and that after verification, the parties involved were given a clear safety assurance. The shooting was subsequently dissolved and the court followed the original schedule for the day.
