Broker and Associate Arrested for Alleged Property Tax Fraud in Udupi City

Police on Monday arrested a broker and a co‑accused on charges of defrauding the Udupi City Municipal Council (UCMC) in its property tax collection. The duo allegedly submitted forged documents and manipulated tax records to secure larger refunds for themselves.
UCMC officials had earlier identified irregularities in the property tax ledger of several high‑value plots in the city centre. The investigation, led by the Karnataka State Police’s Anti‑Fraud Unit, found that the documents presented were fabricated and that the broker had used shell companies to funnel the illegal gains.
