Consumer Commission fines Manipal Cigna over cardiac test demands during CPR

The Consumer Commission of India on Wednesday imposed a penalty on Manipal Cigna for compulsorily demanding cardiac tests during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a move that potentially delayed urgent patient care.

Under the complaint, the insurance provider required patients to undergo a series of heart‑related investigations even as emergency teams performed life‑saving CPR. The Commission found that such a hold‑up was in breach of the Consumer Protection Act and the clinic’s service agreements.
