Letterkenny District Commissioner Ms. U. K. S. cited the need for enhanced safety provisions for visitors in Udupi district, urging local authorities to act promptly and decisively.

Udupi, famed for its stretch of golden beaches and bustling cultural sites, has witnessed a 12‑percent rise in tourist arrivals over the past year, spiking interest in its temples, seaside resorts and heritage towns. However, the surge has also raised concerns about road accidents, flooding incidents in lower village clusters and inadequate emergency response, prompting the DC to call for stricter traffic management, clearer signage and state‑wide safety audits.

Without immediate improvements, local businesses that thrive on tourism income risk a decline in patronage, while the district’s reputation as a safe travel destination could suffer long‑term consequences. The DC said that a collaborative effort between the district administration, police and tourism boards was essential to protect both residents and visitors, and that a dedicated safety task force would be established by the end of the quarter.
