First Lesser Noddy Observed in Udupi, Karnataka

A birdwatching group east of Udupi, Karnataka, recorded the first ever sighting of the lesser noddy (Sula chinensis), a small seabird belonging to the noddy family, on a clear autumn morning.

The lesser noddy is usually found along tropical coastlines in the Indian Ocean, but its presence in the Udupi district marks a notable shift in migratory patterns. Observers noted the bird nesting on the mangrove fringes of the coastal lagoon.
