Govt Sanctions ₹2 Crore for Emergency Coastal Erosion Repairs in Udupi

The Government of Karnataka has approved a budget of ₹2 crore to address emergency coastal erosion along the Udupi district shoreline. This funding is intended for immediate reinforcement measures, including the installation of revetments and sand replenishment at the most vulnerable stretches.

Udupi’s coastal communities have faced escalating erosion over recent years, with storm surges and tidal fluctuations hitting fishing villages and agricultural lands. Previous incidents have led to loss of property and disrupted livelihoods. The new allocation follows a state review that identified critical erosion hotspots requiring swift intervention to prevent further damage.

With the funds, the district administration plans to retrofit dunes, construct wave breakers, and deploy early warning systems.
