Heavy Monsoon Rains Flood Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Coastlines

Heavy rains from the southwest monsoon have drenched the western coast of Karnataka, with Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts recording rainfall totals exceeding 300 mm over a 48‑hour period, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

Officials report that the sudden downpour has overwhelmed the region’s drainage infrastructure, which struggled to cope with the unprecedented volume of water. Schools in flood‑prone towns were temporarily closed, while several low‑lying villages are now temporarily isolated.
