Heavy Monsoon Rains Lash Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts

West coast districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi were hit by the most intense rainfall of the monsoon season this week, bringing water levels to record highs and making mobility difficult for residents. 24‑hour precipitation totals exceeded 300 millimetres in many locations.

India Meteorological Department data shows the low‑pressure system over the Arabian Sea has intensified, channeling heavy showers across Karnataka’s coastal belt. The sustained winds of up to 40 km/h further exacerbated flooding risk as rivers swelled beyond capacity.
