Heavy rains that hit the coastal belt of Karnataka yesterday caused significant damage, with two houses in Udupi shaking under the deluge and 84 MESCOM electricity poles falling in the neighboring Dakshina Kannada district.
The sudden squalls, part of a larger monsoon pattern, overwhelmed drainage systems across both districts, prompting local authorities to call for emergency repairs. In Udupi town, the roofs of the affected homes were reported to have collapsed, leaving residents stranded.
