Heavy Rain Expected in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, Fishermen Warned

India’s Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, expecting daily rainfall to exceed 50 mm for the next 72 hours.

The alert comes as the southwest monsoon arrives early, bringing powerful southwest winds from the Arabian Sea that fuel intense convective activity. The region has seen sustained rainfall this week, raising water levels in the Netravathi and Gurupura rivers.

Local authorities have warned fishermen to avoid fishing in open coves and offshore areas, citing rough seas and potential storm surges.
