Heavy Rain Floods Udupi, Damaging Homes and Blocking Roads

Over the last 72 hours, persistent monsoon showers have swollen rivers and saturated low‑lying areas in Udupi district, resulting in widespread flooding that has damaged dozens of houses and disrupted traffic on key roadways.
The coastal district, which lies along the Arabian Sea, has experienced record rainfall for this time of year, surpassing earlier monsoon totals and exacerbating the risk of landslides and waterlogging that regularly afflict its villages and towns.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least 130 homes have sustained damage and around 12 stretches of the national highway NH‑66 and several inter‑district roads are currently impassable. Local police and disaster management teams have set up relief camps in affected villages such as Byndoor and Kundapura and are prioritising road clearance operations to restore connectivity.
