Heavy Rain Floods Udupi District, Damaging Homes and Blocking Roads

Heavy rainfall that began in the late afternoon on Thursday overwhelmed local drainage systems, flooding homes and damaging buildings across Udupi district.

Heavy downpours have hit the coastal taluk of Udupi, the inland hilly area near Karkala and the western belt around Kundapura. Local residents report that major roads including the NH66 corridor and the Bhatkal‑Udupi link are partially blocked due to landslides and standing water.

According to district administration, several houses suffered roof leaks and structural damage, and casualties are under investigation. Engineers from the Public Works Department have been deployed to clear debris and restore road access. Residents are urged to stay alert as weather forecasts predict further rainfall.
