Heavy Rain in Udupi Shatters Homes, Cuts Off Roads

Yesterday, torrential downpours struck the Udupi district, causing widespread structural damage and flooding that left many households without power or water.

The monsoon intensity was higher than normal, with recorded rainfall exceeding 250mm in several talukas within a 12‑hour span, surpassing the average for this period. Early warnings issued by the Meteorological Department were not enough to prevent the deluge.

Numerous homes collapsed or suffered significant roof damage, and key arterial roads, including the NH66 corridor and local feeder routes, were washed out, cutting off several villages from the main road network.
