Heavy rain swamps Udupi district, tree fall in Kapu claims cow

Heavy rains across Udupi district over the weekend caused widespread waterlogging and disrupted transport. Local meteorological authorities recorded rainfall amounts exceeding 80 mm in some parts of the district, with the highest contributions from the coastal belt and the hills.
The storm caused a tragic incident in the village of Kapu, where a large banyan tree collapsed onto a cow that was grazing near the roadside. The animal was killed instantly, and villagers had to rescue the wounded tree from the mud, raising concerns over the management of mature trees in residential and agricultural zones.
