Heavy rains batter Udupi district, damaging homes and blocking roads

Udupi district suffered heavy rainfall overnight, with clouds over the Western Ghats breaking to deliver torrential showers that flooded low‑lying areas and overwhelmed drainage systems.
The Karnataka Pollution Control Board issued a warning, and local authorities urged residents to stay indoors. Several villages in Bantwal and Udupi taluk reported submerged streets, collapsed walls and damaged household roofs, while pothole‑laden bridges along NH 66 and SH 59 became impassable for the better part of a day.
By morning, local police and the district health and transport departments had cleared major routes, but many homes remain water‑logged, and 150 families were reportedly displaced, with emergency relief being organised. Source: Google News – Udupi District.
