Heavy Rains Cause House Damage and Road Blockages Across Udupi District

Thunderstorms and continuous downpour over the past week have battered Udupi district with heavy rain, causing widespread damage to homes and disrupting road networks. Lightning strikes and the resulting flooding have led to the collapse of walls and roofs in affected households.

Local authorities have declared a state of emergency, mobilizing the Karnataka Disaster Management Authority and volunteer groups to conduct rescue and restoration operations. The Udupi Municipal Council is working with the Public Works Department to clear road blockages caused by debris and to repair damaged bridges.

As of now, at least 120 houses have sustained significant damage and more than 80% of the main roads in the district remain impassable. The situation has prompted the evacuation of residents in several affected villages, while the district administration urges motorists to avoid heavily saturated routes.
