Heavy rains continue to batter Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts

Heavy monsoon rains have persisted over the past 48 hours, battering the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in Karnataka. Weather stations report rainfall totals exceeding 200 mm in some areas, with gusty winds adding to the chaos.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warns of worsening conditions as cloud cover remains low and rain is forecast to continue through the weekend. Local administrations have activated flood control measures, but early warning systems have not yet been fully operational in remote villages.

So far, the deluge has slowed transportation, caused landslides on mountain passes, and left several villages isolated due to washed-out roads.
