Heavy rains hit Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, causing flooding and road blockages

Heavy rainfall in the early hours of Wednesday overnight struck several taluks in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, inundating villages and cutting off major roads. Potholes turned into rivers, and the Thirthalli and Kalladka streams swelled beyond their banks.
According to local officials, at least 40 villages across the two districts are currently affected, with 15 of them reporting complete submersion. Farmers in Karkala taluk have lost a significant portion of their paddy crops, while the National Transport Portal reports that the hilly roads of Chikmagalur that connect to Udupi are closed due to landslides.
The Karnataka State Disaster Response force has deployed 20 personnel and mobile medical vans to the hotspots, and relief camps have been set up in 12 villages. Roads will be cleared by 4 a.m. on Thursday. Source: Google News – Udupi District.
