Hoax Bomb Threat Email Triggers Security Alert at Udupi District Court

Late Sunday evening, an email warning of a bomb in the premises of the Udupi District Court was received by court officials. The message, which claimed that a destructive device had been planted, contained no details beyond the threat of a time‑bomb, but sufficient to trigger the court’s emergency protocols.

In accordance with protocols for bomb threats, law enforcement and the courthouse’s security team were immediately notified. The court was evacuated, the courthouse and surrounding buildings were searched, and a temporary hold was placed on all pending hearings to ensure the safety of staff and visitors. The threat was later determined to be a hoax, and the personnel who drafted and sent the email have not yet been identified.

The incident caused a brief but significant disruption to the court system in Udupi, with several cases suspended and appointments rescheduled. Police are continuing their investigation into the source of the email, which is believed to have been sent from a location outside of Karnataka.
