Karnataka Declares Red Alert as Heavy Rains Shut Schools in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada

Heavy rainfall over the last 48 hours has prompted the Karnataka state government to issue a red alert for several districts, including Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, as the monsoon intensifies across the region.
The weather bureaus report sustained rainfall exceeding 200 mm in some districts, leading to landslides in hilly areas and swollen rivers. The state climate department has warned that continuous rain could exacerbate flooding and increase erosion risks along riverbanks.
As a precaution, the Udupi district administration has suspended all school operations from Monday onward, and transportation services have been limited due to road blockages caused by waterlogging. Flooded groves, damaged roads, and sudden surges in water have forced several families to relocate to relief camps. Officials urge residents to monitor local radio and SMS alerts for updates.
