The Karnataka state government has announced the release of ₹40 lakh to compensate 20,000 participants of the Kambala, an iconic bull race celebrated across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Kambala, which has been a staple of coastal Karnataka culture for centuries, sees thousands of riders and their bulls racing for prizes and prestige. In 2024, the government allocated the amount to cover travel costs, prize money, and training expenses for the racers, ensuring that the tradition can continue while safeguarding participants’ livelihoods.

With the infusion of funds, racers across both districts report increased financial support, easing the burden of costs associated with training and breeding.
