Kasturba Hospital Saves Man After Cardiac Arrest Using ECMO; Discharged Without Neurological Damage

In a remarkable demonstration of critical care, Kasturba Hospital in Manipal successfully revived a man who went into cardiac arrest, employing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to support his heart and lungs for several hours.

The patient was brought to the emergency department in a comatose state after a sudden heart failure; after immediate CPR and administration of emergency medications, the surgical team initiated ECMO, allowing the heart to rest and recover while oxygenating the blood.
