Light to Moderate Rainfall Sweeps Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts

On 27 June 2024, the Meteorological Department reported light to moderate rainfall across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, with maximum accumulations of 15–20 mm in some foothill areas.

The showers were part of a weak southwest monsoon wave that pushed condensed water droplets over the coastal belt, offering a much‑needed replenishment for the region’s standing crop of areca nut and coconut while also flushing drainage ditches.

Road authorities flagged sections of NH66 and the coastal roads as slippery, urging drivers to exercise caution. No significant flooding or landslides have been recorded yet, but river levels in the Kumara and Tonda streams were monitored closely.
