Man Defrauded of Rs 22 Lakh by Individuals Pretending to be Officials

A Udupi resident was tricked into transferring ₹22 lakh to fraudsters who masqueraded as government officials, the police said on Tuesday.

The man, who has not been named, claimed the scammers contacted him via phone and claimed to be officials from the Karnataka Public Service Commission. They allegedly promised him a lucrative government job and requested upfront fees for documentation and training. Believing the call was legitimate, he wired the full amount to the numbers supplied, only to realise weeks later that the officials were impersonators and there was no job offer.

The case has prompted a police investigation into possible links with a larger scam ring in Udupi, and local authorities are urging residents to verify any official claim before making payments. Source: Google News – Udupi.
