Man of Udupi loses Rs 22 lakh to fraudsters posing as officials

A local farmer from Udupi’s Chikkanayakanuru village reported that he was duped by a group claiming to be officials from the Karnataka Land Revenue Department and the Central Police. The fraudsters convinced him that his land could not be processed and requested a payment of Rs 22 lakh to expedite the paperwork, which the farmer reluctantly transferred.

According to police statements, the men used personal details and fabricated documents to appear authentic. They left the village without collecting the money, which was held in a bank account belonging to an unknown account holder. Villagers who discovered the deception have come forward with further evidence, including copies of the forged documents.

The Udupi Police Department has launched a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and has opened a probe into the identity of the conspirators.
