Mangaluru: JCTU Organises 'Jail Bharo' Protest Demanding Workers' Rights

The Joint Centre of Trade Unions (JCTU) organised a 'Jail Bharo' protest in Mangaluru, urging the government to implement the long-pending demands of the workers. The protest, which was held in the city's central business district, saw a large number of workers participating, including those from various industries such as IT, manufacturing, and construction.
The protesters were demanding better working conditions, higher wages, and greater job security. They also sought the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act and the Payment of Wages Act, which they claimed were being flouted by many employers. The JCTU leaders alleged that despite repeated representations, the government had failed to address their grievances, forcing them to resort to extreme measures such as the 'Jail Bharo' protest.
The protest, which was peaceful initially, turned tense when the police attempted to disperse the crowd. Several protesters were detained and taken into custody, sparking outrage among the workers and their families. The JCTU has vowed to continue their struggle for workers' rights, promising to escalate their protests if their demands are not met.
