Manipal: Accused in Drink‑and‑Drive Accident Held in Judicial Custody

A 32‑year‑old resident of Manipal was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly causing a road‑traffic collision after driving under the influence. Police recovered the white Suzuki Swift and cordoned off the intersection of Mahatma Gandhi Road and Somwarpet Road before the accused was taken to the Manipal Police Station for questioning.
According to a statement issued by the district attorney’s office, the driver collided with a parked jeep, leaving the jeep’s occupant with moderate injuries but no life‑threatening wounds. Witnesses and an ambulance crew reached the scene within minutes, and the victim was promptly transported to Udupi General Hospital for treatment of bruised ribs and a fractured wrist. The accused's son has been granted bail pending trial.
