Manipal Hospitals Launches Robotics Workshop to Train Future Surgeons

On Thursday, Manipal Hospitals inaugurated a pioneering robotics simulation workshop in Udupi, aiming to equip medical students with practical skills for robotic-assisted surgeries. The event saw the hospital’s chief surgeon, Dr. R. Kumar, launch a state‑of‑the‑art training module featuring virtual reality simulators and real‑time haptic feedback systems.

This initiative follows a growing recognition in Karnataka’s medical community of the need for specialized training in minimally invasive techniques. The workshop, designed in collaboration with the Institute for Emerging Medical Technologies, offers a curriculum that covers basic robotic navigation, instrument handling, and troubleshooting in a risk‑free environment.

By providing hands‑on experience early in their careers, the training is expected to reduce error rates and improve patient outcomes, while also expanding the skillset of Udupi’s upcoming surgeons.
