Indian MP has urged Karnataka Chief Minister to approve the merger of Karnataka Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) with Indian Railways, asserting that the consolidation would enhance railway connectivity in the state.
KRCL, which has historically operated several branch lines across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, has faced challenges related to aging infrastructure and underutilized assets. A merger is seen as a way to bring these assets under a unified management, facilitating better maintenance and expansion.
Proponents say the merger will create synergies, reduce duplication, and help allocate resources for upgrading tracks, stations, and rolling stock, ultimately improving services for local commuters and boosting regional economic development. Source: Google News – Udupi.
