Newborn record lapse and missing NRC flagged at Udupi district hospital

A newborn born at Udupi District Hospital last week had its birth record misplaced, and the required Newborn Registry Certificate (NRC) was not found in the hospital’s files.
Under Karnataka’s child welfare protocols, every delivery must be documented with a birth certificate and an NRC, which serves as the child’s initial identity record and is vital for accessing health and educational services.
The missing documents raise serious concerns about compliance with state regulations and could delay the child’s enrolment in vaccination programmes, as well as create legal hurdles for the family.
