Polio Drive Vaccinated 1.99 Lakh Children in Udupi

In a sweeping effort to bolster India’s polio eradication drive, health authorities in Udupi district vaccinated 1.99 lakh children aged 0 to 35 months. The campaign, conducted over a weekend, saw the deployment of oral polio vaccine across 100 villages and urban centers within the district.
The initiative was coordinated by the Karnataka State Health Department in partnership with the WHO and UNICEF, and aligned with the country’s annual Polio Immunisation Day. Staff from local health centres administered the vaccine in a mix of door‑to‑door and fixed‑site clinics, ensuring children in remote hill tracts and densely populated towns were reached.
The reach of 199,000 children brings the cumulative coverage in Udupi District above 95%, a key threshold for interrupting transmission.
