Pulse Polio Drive Vaccinates Nearly 200,000 Children in Udupi

The Udupi district in Karnataka completed a Pulse Polio immunisation drive that reached 1.99 lakh children aged under six, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The campaign, conducted from 24 October to 6 November, covered 314 blocks and 1,245 villages, with health workers administering the oral polio vaccine at mobile clinics in schools and community centres.

Health officials highlighted that the drive followed a targeted approach, focusing on hard‑to‑reach pockets and ensuring that every child received the full dosage. “We set up temporary vaccination posts in remote hamlets and coordinated with village leaders to mobilise families,” said Dr. S. N. Kumar, Udupi district health officer. The effort also incorporated real‑time monitoring to track doses administered and identify gaps promptly.

The nearly 200,000 children vaccinated in Udupi represent a significant step towards the national goal of polio eradication and demonstrate Karnataka’s commitment to maintaining low transmission rates.
