Rapid CPR and ECMO rescue cardiac arrest patient in Manipal

Earlier this week, a patient who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest was revived at Manipal Hospital after emergency medical staff initiated rapid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and deployed an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine within minutes.

The team commenced CPR immediately upon arrival, achieving a successful return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) within 12 minutes. Once the patient was stabilized, anesthesiologists connected the patient to an ECMO circuit, providing advanced life support and allowing the heart to rest while the machine oxygenated the blood.

Thanks to the swift intervention, the patient is now recovering and is expected to make a full return to health.
