Red Alert Issued for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Amid Heavy Rainfall Forecast Until June 10

The Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has declared a red alert for the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rainfall for the next ten days, warning of potential floods, landslides, and infrastructure damage. The alert is effective until 10 June 2024.

The warning follows a cluster of cyclonic showers that last week swept through the Western Ghats, triggering flash floods and landslides in several villages and damaging roads across the two districts. Local media reported drownings and property damage in isolated communities.

Officials are urging residents to secure properties in low-lying areas, avoid traversing waterlogged roads, and prepare emergency kits. Rescue teams have been dispatched and helplines set up to coordinate evacuation and relief efforts.
