School Bus Overturns in Ditch Near Manipal, 7 Children Injured

A school bus overturned into a rough hillside ditch near Manipal, Karnataka, injuring seven students, police officials said on Sunday.

The accident occurred on the Kammanakonda Road, a winding route that serves several government schools in the Manipal area. According to witnesses, the bus, carrying 20 children, lost control as it approached a sharp bend and plunged into the ditch.

All seven children were taken to the nearby Udupi district hospital; none were reported with life‑threatening injuries. The driver, identified as 45‑year‑old Ramesh Naik, was found lucid and is cooperating with investigators. Classes at the affected school have been suspended while authorities probe the incident.
