School Bus Overturns in Udupi; Eight Students Injured

A school bus traveling from Udupi town to a nearby primary school lost control on a curved section of the NH 66 and overturned onto the adjacent lane, injuring eight students in the incident that occurred early this morning.
The 18‑seat bus, a white Hyundai model, was transporting students from Lower Primary School for Meanwhile, the route covers a largely rural stretch, and the bus was scheduled to pick up students around the Perivudikatti crossing before proceeding toward its destination. The driver, who was unharmed, stated that sudden braking caused the vehicle to skid, but a police report points to a possible mechanical fault in the steering system.
All eight students were taken to Udupi Civil Hospital by ambulance; three were admitted for observation while the others suffered superficial wounds and a few fractures. School authorities have suspended bus services for the day and urged parents to use alternate transport. The Karnataka State Transport Department has initiated an investigation into the incident, and the Karnataka Police Consumer Protection Wing requested a full probe, saying “the safety of passengers on public buses is paramount.”
