SDM Soukhyavana to Lead Annual Paddy Transplantation Drive on July 19

The Special District Magistrate (SDM) of Soukhyavana has confirmed that the annual paddy transplantation drive will take place on July 19, 2024, at the district’s primary rice‑field zones. Farmers and volunteers are expected to gather early in the morning to plant seedlings using the district’s freshly prepared nurseries.

Udupi’s rice‑cultivation cycle faces challenges such as erratic rainfall and water scarcity, making timely transplantation crucial. The SDM’s drive, backed by the agricultural department, will provide farmers with high‑yield seed varieties and training on modern transplanting techniques to increase productivity and resilience against climate variability.

With an estimated 500 families participating, the initiative is anticipated to raise local crop output by up to 15–20 percent, providing a much‑needed boost to the region’s economy and food security. “These drives strengthen the community’s farming capacity and ensure sustained livelihoods,” said the SDM.
