Speed Radar Cameras Go Live at Six Udupi Highway Spots

Six speed‑radar cameras have been turned on across the Udupi District’s highways, marking a new step in the region’s traffic enforcement strategy. The cameras, positioned at selected high‑traffic junctions, are programmed to capture driving speeds exceeding the statutory limits and will trigger automatic penalty notices.

The deployment comes at a time when Udupi’s road network, which links towns across the Kumbala, Padubidri and Kadri regions, is seeing increased vehicular influx due to tourism and commercial activity. State transport officials highlighted that the cameras are part of a broader campaign to reduce road casualties, which have risen in the past five years.

Transport Minister R K Gururaj stated that the initiative would create a deterrent effect, with estimated savings on police patrol hours and a projected decline in speed‑related accidents by up to 15% over the next year.
