Speed Radar Cameras Installed at Six Highway Spots in Udupi

Karnataka traffic officials have installed speed‑radar cameras at six key points along the Udupi highway corridor, effective today. The system aims to deter speeding and reduce road accidents in the rapidly growing town.

The Udupi district, located on the western coast of Karnataka, has seen a sharp rise in vehicular traffic over recent years. With frequent complaints of speeding on the coastal stretch between Udupi and Mangalore, the Karnataka Police Transport Department commissioned the radar system as part of its “Road Safety for All” initiative.

The cameras, equipped with automated speed‑measurement and recording technology, will instantly capture exceedances and forward the data to the central enforcement hub in Mangalore. Motorists caught driving above the 80 km/h limit will receive on‑the‑spot fines, while the device will also provide video evidence to support prosecutorial proceedings.
