Speed Radar Cameras Operational at Six Udupi Highway Sites to Boost Road Safety

Six speed radar cameras have been put into service at six key highway junctions across Udupi district, marking a significant upgrade in the region’s road safety infrastructure. The cameras are now fully operational, ready to record vehicles that exceed posted speed limits.
The installation, carried out by the Karnataka State Traffic Police in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India, covers major routes that see heavy daily traffic, including stretches of NH‑66 and NH‑73. Officials say the new system will enable instant issuance of traffic clearances and fines, thereby discouraging speeding behaviour.
Experts expect the cameras to reduce the number of speeding infractions and road accidents in the district significantly. Local traffic management officials have highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader statewide campaign to improve road safety and keep motorists compliant with speed regulations.
