On Tuesday, Tata Motors announced the availability of its all‑electric Sierra van in the Udupi District, Karnataka, setting the on‑road price at ₹21.26 lakh (inclusive of state levies). The launch comes amid rising demand for electric commercial vehicles and aligns with the state’s push for greener transport solutions.
The Sierra EV marks Tata’s second commercial electric vehicle after the Enviro line, offering a 300‑kilometre range on a single charge and a payload capacity of up to 1,200 kilograms. Local fleet operators and auto‑rental companies have expressed keen interest, citing lower operating costs and eligibility for government subsidies as key buying incentives.
With the introduction of the Sierra EV, Udupi’s commercial transport sector stands to see reduced fuel consumption and emissions, supporting Karnataka’s broader environmental goals. The price point also positions the Sierra competitively against rivals such as the Mahindra eVito and Hyundai eSpace.
