Three Habitual Offenders Detained in Udupi District

Late Thursday, the Udupi police escorted three habitual offenders from a temporary holding facility to the Central Jail in Mangalore. The men, all with multiple prior convictions for robbery, assault and drug trafficking, were handed over to the judiciary after a 48‑hour remand period.

The move follows a series of coordinated operations by the district crime squad that aimed to dismantle a local ring known for extorting businesses and engaging in street-level drug sales. Intelligence fed by the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department helped identify the suspects’ involvement in four major robberies over the past year.

Local residents and business owners in Udupi say the arrests have brought a sense of relief, with police promising to maintain a visible presence on busy streets and markets. The Directorate of Legal Services will now prosecute the accused, and an affidavit has been filed to secure further investigation into related associates.
