Today the air quality index (AQI) in Udupi registered at 42, falling in the moderate range as per the National Air Quality Index guidelines.
The moderate reading is attributed to the presence of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), largely from vehicular emissions and local cooking practices. Meteorological conditions such as low wind speed and high humidity have restricted dispersion, keeping pollutant levels above background but below unhealthy thresholds.
Health officials recommend that people with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions exercise caution, especially during peak traffic hours. Broad public segments such as children and the elderly may wish to stay indoors and reduce strenuous outdoor activities until the AQI drops to good levels. Source: Google News – Udupi.
